Batizado
Looks like I'm getting baptized into Capoeira at the end of September =]
A Batizado (literally baptism in Portuguese, and borrowed from the religious tradition) is normally an annual event for a Capoeira group in a region or country. The practice of Capoeira Batizados originates from Capoeira Regional, but has been extended to other styles.
Batizados are large events and are very important for the group organizing it. It is the point in the year where the new members will be baptized officially into the group and receive their first cords and where the other members depending on their progress will get a new one. A typical batizado will take several days and consist of workshops, the actual Batizado itself and a Troca das Cordas. Often many groups from more than one region will attend a Batizado for other groups. This allows for development of the game by contact with other players, teachers and styles.
In many schools, students are baptized by the floor -- that is, they play against higher level capoeiristas and are subsequently taken down by a rasteira. This is meant to signify a continual process of humility and improvement in the game.
Normally the Mestre of the group must be present during the proceedings, but historically this is not required.

Troca das Cordas
Literally the changing of the cords, cords signify the level of a capoeirista. During the troca das cordas some capoeiristas will receive a new corda before or after a game played against a Mestre (Master) in which they have to show their advancement and earn the right to wear the new corda. The color schemes for the levels vary from group to group.Thursday, June 24, 2010
About Us
"Something About Us" - Daft Punk
It might not be the right timeI might not be the right one
But there's something about us I want to say
Cause there's something between us anyway
I might not be the right one
It might not be the right time
But there's something about us I've got to do
Some kind of secret I will share with you
I need you more than anything in my life
I want you more than anything in my life
I'll miss you more than anyone in my life
I love you more than anyone in my life
"They Don't Know About Us" - Ben Gibbard
You've been around for such a long time now,
And maybe I could leave you, but I don't know how.
And why should I be lonely every night,
When I could be with you, oh yes you make it right.
So I don't listen to the boys who say,
That you're bad for me and I should turn you away.
Cause they don't know about us, they've never heard of love.
I get a feeling when I look at you,
Wherever you go now, I wanna' be there too.
They say we're crazy, but I just don't care,
And if they keep on talking, still they'll get nowhere.
So I don't mind if they don't understand,
When I look at you and you hold my hand.
Cause they don't know about us, they've never heard of love.
Why should it matter to us if they don't approve?
We should just take our chances what if we've got nothing to lose?
Baby, there's no need for living in the past,
Cause now I found good lovin', gonna' make it last.
I tell the others, "don't bother me",
Cause when I look at you, they don't see what I see.
And I don't listen to their wasted lines,
Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs.
Cause they don't know about us, they've never heard of love.
So I don't listened to their wasted lines,
Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs.
Cause they don't know about us, they've never heard of love
i don't want things to get complicated
And maybe I could leave you, but I don't know how.
And why should I be lonely every night,
When I could be with you, oh yes you make it right.
So I don't listen to the boys who say,
That you're bad for me and I should turn you away.

Lately...I'm not excited about anything. I'm just going through the motions of this so-called transition period and I feel like I am spinning in circles inevitably. The only time I am excited to be doing something is with my capoeira group. It's the only colorful thing in my immediate life right now and I hope that permeates into other facets of my life soon. Missing class on Monday's makes me hate Kim's class that much more.
I could do this all day.

Feet
they are everywhere! one of the guys in my capoiera class wears them too!

Heartbeats
One night to be confused
One night to speed up truth
We had a promise made
Four hands and then away
Both under influence
We had divine sense
To know what to say
Mind is a razorblade
One night to speed up truth
We had a promise made
Four hands and then away
Both under influence
We had divine sense
To know what to say
Mind is a razorblade
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no
One night of magic rush
The start - a simple touch
One night to push and scream
And then relief
Ten days of perfect tunes
The colors red and blue
We had a promise made
We were in love
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, oh
And you, you knew the hand of a devil
And you kept us awake with wolves teeth
Sharing different heartbeats in one night
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, no
To call for hands of above to lean on
Wouldn't be good enough for me, oh

Young Folks
If I told you things I did before
Told you how I used to be
Would you go along with someone like me?
If you knew my story word for word
Had all of my history
Would you go along with someone like me?
I did before and had my share
It didn't lead nowhere
I would go along with someone like you
It doesn't matter what you did
Who you were hanging with
We could stick around and see this night through
"usually when things has gone this far
people tend to disappear
no one will surprise me unless you do "
7th Inning Stretch
...one of my favorite parts of going to a baseball game...especially that one night we all sang "Don't Stop Believing." I think everyone should engage in a 7th inning stretch every once in a while to keep their day going

I'm exhausted...I'm going to wake up now.
I can't sleep anymore. I don't know what has gotten into my sleep.
If you rescue me,
I'll be your friend forever,
Let me in your bed,
I'll keep you warm in winter,
All the kitties are playing
and they're having such fun,
I wish it could happen to me,
But if you rescue me,
I'll never have to be alone again.
Oh the cars drive so fast
and the people are mean,
and sometimes it's hard to find food,
let me into your room,
I'll keep you warm and amused,
all the things we can do in the rain
If you rescue me,
I'll be your friend forever,
Let me in your bed,
I'll keep you warm in winter,
Oh someday I know
someone will look into my eyes
and say, "Hello, you're my very special kitten,"
So if you rescue me,
I'll never have to be alone again

It's a Light Worker thing....or you can call it insanity
I had a really beautiful day today. Even the radio was on my side and we've had our touch-tone battles of finding a song that would keep me content for at least three to five minutes before having to go at it again. Sometimes...you just have to create your own luck...and hopefully that will infuse organic fortune that no one could ever imagine to be possible. A lot of things got set in motion today and I couldn't be happier. I would almost call it a miracle...but it was really just an overdue series of statements plus someone willing to be open. Although this may not have any effect on where my life is going...I know it is a huge step forward for a couple of other people's lives and I cannot emphasize enough how happy that makes me to think that something can come out of just 2 short hours of truly honest conversation with someone who just had no idea what this is all about. I pray that things go well and remain consistently so in the years to come.
anyway...worked out today and am exhausted. More vids coming soon.
Obadiah Parker - Hey Ya Cover
This is just one of those songs that compliments one all of those these days that I can't breath

Midnight Runnerz
Too bad I only have time for super early/super late runs =X I miss running in the sun and that tingly feeling of heat exhaustion running down my veins
And you know I am serious when I am already planning out my ice baths to "relieve" the masochism.
And...yes...I will be sitting in the ice bath with a martini ;) High school all over again....
by the way...i saw a guy running in these little guys! I don't know how I feel about this, but I have to admit...my flat feet threw a fit of jealously wishing they could run and feel the floor beneath them, minus the waves of shock that echos through every joint and bone in my lower extremities starting at the hip.
